HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and are getting off to a great start in 1997.
The Wahoos are looking good as we move into the Championship time of the year. Our biggest home meets are quickly coming up in February, and the Y is proud to be hosting the prestigious Sunkist AA Invitational and Y States once again.
Second half program payments are due, and bills have been sent out to all families earlier this month. If you have any questions about these invoices, please call me or Nancy Schlichting in the Y Business Office.
We have been working on several projects for 1997, including the Wahoos 25th Anniversary Celebration on July 7, a storage shed for the Colorado Timing equipment, a new management program for the outdoor pool during the summer, and reviewing a non-chlorine system for the 50 meter pool. The pool management committee (Karen Strickland, Brooks Ensor, Maintenance Director Rich Celentano, Aquatic Director Jim Matthews) in coordination with Tim and Scott Pools have been discussing and investigating the pros and cons of a bromine/ozone system, in order to improve the air quality in the bubble. We have a list of about 40 facilities to contact as to their experience with this system, and we will also be making on-site visits to some of these pools. Over the next 4-6 weeks the issue will be thoroughly researched, with a
presentation made to the Wahoo Board of Directors in March reporting findings and recommending next steps. At the January Board Meeting we will discuss the information we have to date and can certainly answer questions about the project, so anyone interested in learning more about it should plan to attend. In the meantime, the Y has ordered a new controller for the present system, which should address the chemical problems we had recently over the holidays. We are making all necessary preparations for the important February meets and the critical practice time in March prior to Y Nationals. If you have any questions about the pool conditions, please do not hesitate to call me.
Thank you for your continuing support of the Wilton Family YMCA. Your membership and participation is greatly appreciated, and we are looking forward to a very successful year for both the Y and the Wahoo Swim Team.
Sincerely, Karen Strickland Swim Team Coordinator
